Writing assistance covers a wide range of student needs, from reviewing assignment requirements to brainstorming topic ideas to generating rough drafts and polishing final drafts. Our qualified and specially trained Writing Assistants work with student writers from all areas of the curriculum to provide feedback, answer questions and offer guidance. Writing is both a skill and a practice. Repeated visits for writing assistance can help students develop a better awareness of processes and strategies that produce better writing. Our goal is to help students produce better writing by becoming more confident, proficient and independent writers.

We offer in-person assistance by appointment and to those who walk in, whenever it is available. Online assistance is provided by appointment via D2L chat. For more information on appointment options and policies, visit our Policies and Procedures page.

English tutoring is offered for students whose needs go beyond writing assistance. Our tutors are degreed professionals who are content area experts in the field of English and/or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). They can provide support for students with understanding course concepts, reading, homework, study skills and answering specialized questions about grammar and the English language. Students might wish to meet with an English tutor occasionally or for ongoing/long-term appointments.

English tutoring is arranged by recommendation—from an instructor, a staff member in the Writing Studio or elsewhere, or by student self-recommendation. Anyone recommending English tutoring for a student (including a self-recommendation) should complete and submit the form below.
