Physical Science Program Information

The Physical Science program includes courses in Astronomy, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Integrated Science, and Physics. Below find information about our courses and degrees – be sure to check the degrees page of LCC’s website for the most updated degree and program pathway information, and the syllabus page for the most updated class information. For any general questions, you may contact the program chair of Physical Science, David Shane.

Astronomy

We offer one astronomy course, ASTR201: Introductory Astronomy. This survey course is generally taken by students to fulfill a Science requirement.

Environmental Science

Our ENVR courses are generally used to support degrees like Environmental Technology and Sustainability. The courses include:

  • ENVR121: Environmental Rules and Regulations
  • ENVR122: Environmental Sampling and Instrumentation
  • ENVR131: Industrial Process Safety

For information specifically about these courses and degrees, you may contact the ENVR course coordinator, Kirsten Wright.

Geography

Our GEOG courses are used to support our Geography degree, and also taken by students looking to fulfill a science or social science requirement, depending on the course. Courses include:

  • GEOG120: Introduction to Geography
  • GEOG200: World Regional Geography
  • GEOG202: Geography of North America
  • GEOG220: Weather, Forecasting, and Climate
  • GEOG221: Physical Geography

For information specifically about these courses and degrees, you may contact Geography professor Will Gustin.

Geology

Our GEOL courses are generally taken by students to fulfill a Science requirement, and also in support of degrees like Environmental Technology and Sustainability. The courses include:

  • GEOL221: Physical Geology
  • GEOL222: Historical Geology
  • GEOL230: Environmental Geology

For information specifically about these courses and degrees, you may contact the GEOL course coordinator, Kirsten Wright.

Integrated Science

Our ISCI121/122 courses are designed to teach a variety of science topics, especially in support of the Child Development and Early Education and Education majors at LCC. The ISCI131 course is used to fulfill a science requirement by a large number of non-science majors. ISCI245 is a specialized course for several of the applied biology/chemistry degrees.

For information about our ISCI courses, you can contact program chair David Shane.

Physics

Our PHYS120 course is used to fulfill a science requirement by a large number of majors. PHYS200 is an applied Physics courses especially taken by various technical careers majors. PHYS221/222 is an algebra-based Physics sequence especially taken by science majors other than Chemistry and Engineering/Physics. PHYS251/252, and PHYS260, are Calculus-based Physics courses used to support our Engineering/Physics degree, and some other math-intensive programs.

  • PHYS120: The Art of Physics
  • PHYS200: Introductory Physics with Application
  • PHYS221: Introductory Physics I
  • PHYS222: Introductory Physics II
  • PHYS251: Physics I: Mechanics
  • PHYS252: Physics II: Electromagnetism, Waves, and Optics
  • PHYS260: Statics for Engineers
