Police Academy

The 17-week Mid-Michigan Police Academy, offered in the fall and spring each year, provides students with more than 700 hours of training, far surpassing the state mandated 594 hours.

Candidates applying to the Academy must have an associate degree or 37 semester credits, which include CORE requirements. Candidates meeting the second criterion must be eligible for an associate degree after completing the Academy.

The deadline to submit applications is Friday July 19th, 2019 4:00PM for the 104th Mid-Michigan Police Academy starting on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019.  There is a Mandatory Orientation scheduled Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 at 8:00am.  Graduation for the Academy is scheduled for Friday December 13th, 2019.

Other qualifications include a minimum 2.0 grade point average, a good driving record, no felony convictions, vision correctable to 20/20 with no congenital color deficiency, and normal hearing required.

Successful applicants must also complete:

  • The Oral Board examination - a competitive process which scores and ranks applicants.
  • The MCOLES battery of pre-enrollment reading / writing and physical skills examinations. To register and make payment for the reading/writing test please go to the MCOLES website. Test dates and online payments for the MCOLES Physical Agility testing at LCC can be accessed below.  On the day of the test make sure you bring your Physicians Health Screening form signed by a doctor and your drivers license.  Physical Agility testing for veterans is free.  Please contact Police Academy office for instructions.  Test dates and online payments can be accessed here.

Participation in the Academy requires a strong commitment of time and dedication from each student. Academy training often exceeds 48 hours per week. Because of the need for flexibility in scheduling, recruits are encouraged not to hold any outside employment.
