Recycling Information

Did you know that for each ton of paper recycled:

  • 3 cubic yards of landfill space are preserved for future use by Mid-Michigan residents
  • 17 trees are preserved
  • 60 pounds of air pollution effluent are kept out of the air we breathe
  • 7000 gallons of water are conserved

Successful recycling requires proper sorting of material. Paper that is contaminated with non-recyclable material or unacceptable paper for a certain grade of paper may be land filled, becausepaper mills may not be able to use the mixed and contaminated paper.

Recycling is not a lot of trash. Do your part and keep office paper recycling clean. Please keep the following out of the sorted office paper:

  • Carbon paper, magazines and newspapers and newspaper-like paper
  • Kleenex, food wrappers, food waste or anything gross
  • Orange/Brown business mailing envelopes
  • Overnight envelopes (FedEx, UPS, USPS) and blue prints

Since 1989, the total amount of paper recycled with Granger Recycling Center is equivalent of 2,932,000 trees saved (3,665 acres of forest), 1,207,230,948 gallons of water conserved, 11,497,438 pounds of air pollution effluent reduced, and over 316,180 cubic yards of landfill space preserved for the Mid-Michigan area.

Thanks for your help in protecting our environment!
