Grants

Grants are sources of aid that students do not have to pay back. The funds come from the U.S. Department of Education or Lansing Community College.

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based federal grant awarded to low and middle income undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's or professional degree to promote access to postsecondary education. Students must meet basic eligibility requirements. Grant amounts are based on the student's expected family contribution, or EFC (see Calculating Need), and enrollment level with a maximum annual award of $5,920 during the 2017-2018 year. Students are limited to receiving the equivalent of 12 full-time semesters of Federal Pell Grant.

Authorization of Federal Pell Grant awards are based on enrollment levels, and are also subject to the Federal Pell Grant Census Date. To review the enrollment level requirements and Census Dates, please visit our Policies page.

Students can review the amount of Federal Pell Grant awarded by accessing their myLCC account, or by viewing the Pell Grant Chart linked below.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The FSEOG is a federal grant awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, meet the basic eligibility requirements, and qualify for a Federal Pell Grant. FSEOG funding is limited; therefore, priority is given to students who have the lowest EFC.

Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship

The Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship is a recalculation of aid provided to students whose parent or guardian is a public safety officer who died in the line of duty. This scholarship is available to those who are Federal Pell Grant eligible and are under 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of parent's or guardian's death. The student will be requested to provide documentation to be considered. The recalculation determines a student at full Federal Pell Grant, FSEOG, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Direct Loan award offers (within the student's cost of attendance).
